PE and Sport Premium
The government provides extra funding to improve provision of physical education (PE) and sport in primary schools in England – The Primary PE & Sport Premium.
The four objectives of the Primary PE and Sport Premium funding are:
- To improve the quality of existing PE teaching through continuing professional learning in PE for generalists, so that all primary pupils improve their health, skills and physical literacy, and have broader exposure to a range of sports
- To increase participation levels in competitive sport and healthy activity of pupils, and maintain these into adolescence
- To increase the quality of initial teacher training in PE and sport, and to promote PE specialisation in primary level workforce
- Schools understand and value the benefits of high quality PE and sport, including its use as a tool for whole school improvement
At Saracens Bell Lane, we believe high quality PE and sport provision are essential, therefore we intend to use the PE Premium in the following ways:
- Saracens Bell Lane is part of the Barnet Schools Sports Partnership which allows us to participate in competitions, festivals and coaching opportunities across a wide range of sports. CLICK HERE for up-and-coming events.
- At Saracens Bell Lane, we recognise the importance of break time and lunchtime activities in supporting the development of healthy active lifestyles. We have therefore increased the range of equipment available during these times and made a commitment to training staff so that we can offer our pupils fun and exciting opportunities to engage in physical activity during the school day. Continued engagement of Play Leaders supports structured playtimes.
- The school will also encourage all children to take part in a daily kilometre walk, jog or run from September onwards
- Bikeability course for upper key stage 2 children
- Working with ‘Sports for Champions’ to welcome Professional Sports people to inspire and train our pupils.
- A trained PE coach provides PE lessons to Years 1- 6
- A wide range of after school club activities
