Year 2 thoroughly enjoyed the hands-on experience of sowing tomato seeds.
The young farmers learnt about where food comes from and how we can grow our own. We look forward to hearing stories of how the children applied their knowledge at home to help the plants grow. Even better, we look forward to hearing that everyone tried their home-grown tomatoes and discovered that nothing tastes more delicious than something you have grown yourself.
The children in Year 1 had the pleasure of meeting the famous explorer Amelia Earhart (at least, they met an actor playing her as Amelia died in 1939!).
‘Amelia’ told the children wonderful stories about exploring and introduced them to many other great explorers.
In a truly interactive workshop the children created boats and sailed them on oceans (in their imaginations!). They even ‘walked on the moon’ too!
Our Year 6 pupils enjoyed the unique experience of staying on a real lightship that is permanently moored at Tollesbury, Essex.
The children appreciated the beautiful wildlife and marshes as well as the huge range of activities: sailing; climbing; archery; team building games; and a day-long expedition.
We hope our Year 6s have many fond memories of their time at Saracens Bell Lane and we’re sure this week with Fellowship Afloat will feature highly on their memory reels.
Our pupils were fully engaged throughout the performances and when they returned to their classrooms were able to explain what they had learnt.
We look forward to more opportunities for partnership with Saracens High School.
The annual Panathlon is a rotation based multi-sports competition including games such as boccia, table cricket, new age kurling, skittles and volleybat.
Any child on the SEN register is eligible to participate in the competition.
The Saracens Bell Lane team collected team points by staying together throughout the rotations. All of the children received a medal and a certificate.
The children loved the experience and we were proud of how they participated.
Waitrose kindly donated enough Easter eggs for every child in our school. On the day of our Easter egg hunt, the children loved finding three paper eggs each. These were then exchanged for a real one. Delicious!
This year’s theme was ‘time’ and each class conducted time based experiments to aid their learning.
Later in the day we held a Science Fair where the children enjoyed displaying what they’d learnt to pupils in other classes
The theme for 2024 was ‘reading for pleasure.’ As a school we focused on I’m Sticking With You Too, a heart-warming story about friendship.
Our assembly in the morning got the day off to a great start as teachers read and acted out the children’s classic We’re Going On A Bear Hunt by Michael Rosen.
After a day of book-focused activities, we ended with a whole school costume parade. One child from each class won a free book. All the other children received a book token so that they could collect a free book when they got back to their classes.
We hope the children will have fond memories of our World Book Days for years to come. They’re certainly precious memories for all the staff!
